Birds of the Central Coast of NSW
Common Name: Indian or Common Mynah
Scientific Name: Acidotheres tristis
Also spelled as Myna, this introduced species struts around like they own the place and are members of the Starling family. They are very intelligent and know just how far to push their luck. I saw a TV documentary about them where the journalist had a blind cat and the Indian Mynahs would come in the cat door and steal dry food right beside the cat.
They are not popular with some Australian natives like Noisy Miners and Wattlebirds who dive bomb them when trees are available. For this reason Indian Mynahs are found more in open parkland.
The Entrance, Nov 2012.
Common or Indian Mynah, North Entrance, Sep 2013.
